When it comes to using long-handled umbrellas, the issue of placement has always been a challenge. However, designer Li Purui found inspiration in an unexpected place - a princess with a crown. This led to the creation of the Supporting Umbrella, a sleek and flexible umbrella stand that elegantly solves the problem of where to place your umbrella.
In many public places, finding an umbrella stand is a breeze. However, in private residences, it is not as common. Traditional umbrella stands tend to be bulky and cumbersome, but the Supporting Umbrella offers a refreshing alternative. With its innovative design, this umbrella stand provides a graceful and practical solution for storing your umbrella.
The Supporting Umbrella is made using high-quality materials such as PMMA (Acrylic) for the umbrella stand and hard Silica gel for the chute boot. The dimensions of the umbrella stand are 158mm in width, 158mm in depth, and 148mm in height. The chute boot measures 59mm in height, with diameters of 17mm, 13mm, and 9mm, and a thickness of 6mm.
Using the Supporting Umbrella is simple. Just choose the appropriate sleeve to cover the umbrella stand. The silicone sleeve has some extensibility, allowing for slight deformation to ensure full contact between the umbrella cover and the head of the umbrella. The umbrella stand features four fulcrum points, ensuring stability. Additionally, there is a circular groove inside the umbrella stand to collect rainwater.
The design process for the Supporting Umbrella began in June 2018 in Wuhan, China, and was completed in November 2019. Li Purui conducted extensive research, including user journey mapping and empathy exercises, to create a design that offers a more complete and enjoyable experience with umbrellas. The goal was to combine both functionality and aesthetics seamlessly.
The Supporting Umbrella has garnered recognition for its excellence in design. In 2019, it was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Idea and Conceptual Design category. This prestigious award is given to designs that are well-designed, practical, and innovative, meeting professional and industrial requirements. The Supporting Umbrella stands out for its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and contribution to a better world.
